Exp-Loc Inserts

ELH1 Series Inserts

The advantages:
Easy press in insertion
Self-locking action on the screw, ideal for where vibration
Press-fit insert with strong,reusable threads.
No heat or ultrasonics required.
Flange-head eliminates direct contact of plastic with mating parts.
Slotted insert compresses allowing easy access into the mounting hole.
Suitable for most thermosetting plastics,Exp-loc are press-in expansion inserts which,
due to Exp-loc diamond knurl pattern, give minimum penetration of the sides of the hole without sacrificing pull-out resistance.

Installation instruction:
Influence of screw dimensions
It is important that the fixing screw fully penetrates the insert in order to achieve
full expansion, screw length should therefore be calculated to ensure that this
condition is met before final clamp torque is applied.

ELH1 Series Inserts DATA

Q1: What are the main advantages of using Exp-Loc press-in expansion inserts?
A: Exp-Loc inserts offer multiple key benefits:

  • Easy press-in installation without requiring heat or ultrasonic equipment.

  • A self-locking mechanism that prevents screw loosening under vibration.

  • Strong, reusable threads suitable for repeated assembly.

  • A flange head design that protects plastic surfaces from direct contact and damage.

  • A slotted body that compresses for easy insertion and expands for secure fastening.

  • Compatibility with most thermosetting plastics.

  • A diamond knurl pattern that minimizes hole wall stress while maintaining high pull-out resistance.

Q2: How do I ensure proper installation of an Exp-Loc insert?
A: The most critical factor is screw selection. The fixing screw must fully penetrate the entire length of the insert to activate its expansion mechanism completely. Always verify that the screw length is sufficient to achieve full expansion before applying the final clamping torque.

Q3: Why is screw length so important during installation?
A: Using an incorrectly short screw will prevent the insert from expanding fully. This results in reduced holding power, weak threads, and an increased risk of loosening or failure in the application.

Q4: Are these inserts suitable for use in applications with high vibration?
A: Yes. The Exp-Loc design provides a self-locking action on the screw, making it an ideal solution for environments with significant vibration or dynamic loads.

Q5: Can Exp-Loc inserts be used in thermoplastic materials?
A: These inserts are specifically engineered for thermosetting plastics. For thermoplastic materials, please consult our technical team for alternative solutions.

Q6: Is special equipment needed for installation?
A: No. Exp-Loc inserts can be installed with a simple press, making them suitable for both manual and automated assembly processes.
